For interested Australians, the installation was carried out by Tony Schott from Gaspower Automotive of 3/183 Macquarie Road, Warners Bay, Newcastle, NSW, telephone (02) 4956 6041. This Benz is my fourth vehicle on LPG so I am not a complete novice when it comes to gas installations. I have no trouble recommending Tony as he has been in the LPG installation business since 1979. Of my four vehicles running on LPG, only one gave me trouble and that was a 1982 Ford Fairlane running dual fuel (petrol & LPG the installation was done before I purchased the vehicle).
In the Benz, the 100 liter gas tank (80 liters effective) is mounted behind the rear passenger seat and replaces the original petrol tank. This has led to a loss of only about 6 inches of boot space. Because there is no petrol tank, the original filler location was converted to take the LPG filler so, as far as anyone looking at the vehicle is concerned, the LPG installation is not apparent.
The gas system installed in the car was supplied by Sprint Gas (Melbourne, Victoria) and it is described (by Gaspower) as part number KFB06 "OMVL straight gas front kit, no gauge" (you could also get it directly from O.M.V.L. of Italy the regulator, or "vapourizer", is stamped R90/E), and the mixer is part number MOTO910000 "New Generation mixer assembly" manufactured by Sprint Gas in Australia. This is a vortex or swirl vane mixer and is based off a designed by O.M.V.L. The mixer information is important because, on the 380, there is very little room above the engine. The 100 liter gas tank is listed as being 375 x 990 in size and the electronics are described as being part number KRB10M "rear kit basic inside 2x vent MV".
